Cruisecat Marine's latest model with the huge rear deck has certainly turned some heads.

 

  The first thing you notice on the latest model Cruisecat is the abundance of space on the rear deck, ideal for both entertaining and fishing in comfort.   The Cruisecat’s proud new owner particularly liked the design of the hull and wanted a boat capable of overnight stays on the outer reef.  He also wanted plenty of space, to be geared up for some serious fishing and also be able to take the family away on weekends.

Certainly room to cruise in comfort on the flybridge.  Plenty of power to get there quickly.

The rear deck has plenty of storage pockets under the side decks for all his fishing tackle and was to be clearly visible and accessible.   Seating is provided on both sides and the transom area from the side deck continuing around.  The boarding platform holds the large bait board with deck wash on both port and starboard transom for easy access.  A stainless steel rail around the outside allows for ample positioning of rod holders.  On the starboard side the newly designed circular staircase to the flybridge makes getting up and down safe and secure even while underway.   The stairs are of ample width but definitely don’t encroach into the spacious back deck area.  The rear hot and cold water shower is great for rinsing off after a swim or a ‘big day’ fishing.

 

Well proportioned with great visibility.  All settled in after a day’s fishing on the reef.

More space

On entering the main cabin through the bi-fold doors it just opens up.  The layout has been kept open plan and clutter free.  The front centre window opens out and allows the cool breeze to blow through the cabin.  The port side has an L-shaped dining setting with full view in all directions.  The galley has been kept simple but versatile with a full size 200L fridge set into the rear bulkhead along with huge pantry, microwave, one and a half bowl sink and a second under-bench fridge for plenty of cold drinks while entertaining.  This boat was lined with a combination of vinyl and hull liner.  New Guinea rosewood timber trims to the galley, dinette and doors add a classy contrast without being too dark and heavy looking.  Functional and beautifully presented.

Accommodation

As you step down into the hull portside, storage cupboards are provided in the stairwell under the side deck.  The front cabin has a full size double bed, full headroom and plenty more storage.  Another cabin is provided on the aft side and can be used for storage or sleeping quarters.  Starboard side boasts more storage under the side deck in the stairwell, another full size cabin and fully moulded shower/toilet with vanity and full headroom on the aft side.  All cabins have plenty of ventilation with port light windows and opening hatches with shade screens.

Customise

Cruisecat customise their vessels to suit owners’ needs and has put a number of the new owners’ personal requests into this vessel.  The most obvious being the four 225hp Optimax outboard motors.  After having the Optimax on his last boat and being more than happy with them he decided to go with the Optimax again.  A  TV screen on the rear deck linked to the GPS showing position or any other required information at a glance.   Internal and external storage pockets without doors for ease of access, fuel and water fillers positioned under the side decks making for safe refuelling and no spillage into the marina to name a few. 

Flybridge

The helm station can be designed with single or double pedestal seating but in this case with the four motors single seating makes operation of the dual controls easy.  Positioning and viewing of the large screen GPS/auto pilot is ideal with the raised back on the helm still leaving plenty of room for the rest of the electronics and controls.  Wrap around seating across the front and a comfy seat behind the helm all with storage beneath, allow guests room to sit and move around in comfort.  There’s still plenty of room behind the rear seat for the tender.

Access to flybridge couldn’t be easier with the new design circular staircase.  Easy access boarding platform.

Mechanical

The owner wanted to be able to cover long distances quickly and economically.  With the four DTS Optimax 225hp motors cruising at 28kts (and a top speed of over 40kts!) the Cruisecat’s able to cover a lot of ground quickly but more importantly at low RPM in turn giving good fuel economy.  At 28kts the Cruisecat gets plenty of air in the tunnel which acts as a big air cushion and enables the boat to glide over the one metre to 1.5m choppy swells and not crashing down like many multihulls tend to do.  The new owner has had a number of cats over the last 32 years and commented that he’s never had such a soft, dry ride in any of his previous cats.  On his first trip from Mooloolaba to Mackay he said he never once had to wipe overspray from his glasses even when it was quite rough in places. 

The standard Cruisecat outboard version will easily perform well with twin 250hp or 300hp, still more than ample power for getting on the plane and getting plenty of air up in the tunnels for that soft ride.  (25hp outboards will actually push the Cruisecat 40 along at around eight knots.)

The electronic switch panel is positioned in easy reach on the bulkhead as you walk through the rear door.  The wiring has been designed and run so as to be able to add or remove any wire from the hulls to the flybridge throughout the boat by just simply removing a panel.  Anyone who has tried to run new wiring on a boat will tell you what a nightmare that can be.

Stepping through the rear deck hatches into the hulls the space is enormous.  All the batteries, battery chargers, auto pilot, oil supply for the motors fits neatly around the edges leaving plenty of room for access and storage.  Looking forward in the hulls is the hot water system, water pressure pump and genset unit, again with plenty of room if you ever have to do any maintenance or great storage for those crab pots that always seem to get in the way.  The fuel and water tanks are positioned mid ships and access to all hoses and fittings is obtained through the hatch into the separate fuel compartment.
